This volume draws on the international study of the Changing Academic Profession (CAP) to highlight trends and challenges in the governance and management of institutions of higher education from the perspectives of the academy. It is based on a common survey of academics in 18 countries from 5 continents, the results of which have been analyzed by national experts in a structured way and in the context of their country’s higher education system. This approach is intended to enable the editors and readers to begin to compare and contrast the contexts, drivers, and current issues facing the different national systems.
