The book provides a core of discussion of the nature of the traditionally accepted main areas of welfare policy – employment, social security, health, housing and social services – with the addition of criminal justice. This discussion is informed by reference to material of direct relevance to social work: authoritative commentaries, selected research and other reflective writing. It is hoped that this strategy will encourage the development of questioning and critical approaches to practice
